Taking Delivery of my BMW R1100S

As some of my friends know, I have upgraded from a 2006 BMW F650GS to a 2002 BMW R1100S. And the reason I was able to spend so much time with my dad on Wednesday is because he offered to drive me out to Pittsburgh, PA with his truck so we can pick up the new motorcycle. It’s a fine piece of work from Germany. My dad says I’ve been branded. And he is correct. I love these BMW motorcycles. And on the way back he nick-named it the Gray Monster.

Of course now we have several days or rain and thunderstorms so I have not had a chance to take it on a proper ride or to do a proper photo shoot of my new motorcycle. But I wanted to share this with my readers.

That’s dad in the background filling the truck up with petro. I covered our coffee and tolls for the day and he provided the truck and fuel.

Let me tell you… it does indeed cook. Must respect the power of this machine.

I just bought a 2000 R1100s special edition last month…. since it has been about 15 years since I last rode (and the last bike I rode was the underpowered Harley 883 Sportster) setting out on the BMW was quite an experience. So far I have just been keeping the revs between 2 and 5 thousand and am finding all the power I need, but with time I am sure that I will make fuller use of the powerband.

Congratulations Kevin! By “special edition” do you mean “boxercup replika”? It is a fine crafted machine. Enjoy it!
